Bantu Fridays - Africa meets West

International sounds have been known to collide and blare from the doorway of London’s vibrant club scene. However, this year, there is one influence which is not getting lost in the rush. It is of course African music. African music has become the success story on London’s music scene, it has torn through this city like wildfire and we cannot get enough of it! It has become clear that African music is invading the usual bass mix by being incorporated in new and exciting ways to create fascinating sub-genres like South Africa’s Kwaito music inspiring UK Funky tunes. Cultural music as a whole has been on the rise here in the UK and this can be seen in their dominance on Shoobs’ events list this month!
Across the city there are numerous clubs which offer African flavoured nights, but my favourite one has to be the monthly Bantu Fridays event, held on the first Friday of the month at London’s Parker McMillan club. Here, you can move your feet to the latest RnB and Hip Hop tunes but also wine down low to a good dose of contemporary African music, making Bantu Fridays a truly unique ‘Afrowestern’ event. With such a wide mix of tunes there is definitely something for everyone! Bantu Fridays are different, not just because they offer a unique blend of genres for your dancing pleasure, but because they do their best to offer you a truly authentic experience. Whether they’re giving out free amarula drinks, introducing new tracks like Dinzy’s ‘bwembera sikulabye’ or making you dress up in colours from the African continent, you can rest assured that this will be a night like no other.
What’s more I love the atmosphere this night exudes. The word “Bantu†actually means people in over 500 different languages, which is so fitting for a night that brings people together to celebrate culture and enjoy music! If like me, you want to break away from the repetitive playlists of other night clubs then jot “Bantu Fridays†next to 3rd September in your diary and prepare yourselves for night to remember. This Friday, rock the 'Preppy' look as Bantu Fridays take us Back to School!

Always place to be every first Friday of the month - In three words I can sum up everything, Fridays At Bantu. And still goes on Hard.
