Al Green - 50 Years of Let’s Stay Together
Performed by The Soul City Five
Often called "the last of the great soul singers:, Al Green became a household name in the early 70s with a string of hit records including "Take Me to the River", "Tired of Being Alone", "Love and Happiness", and his signature song, "Let's Stay Together”. Incorporating elements of gospel in to the popular Philadelphia and deep soul sounds of the time Green was able to create a unique, sexy style that would influence his contemporaries as well as veterans like Marvin Gaye.
We celebrate his music on the 50th anniversary of the release of “Let’s Stay Together” as a single, which went on to be his first number one.
The Soul City Five is made up of Manchester finest soul musicians. They’ll be inviting special guests to perform Al Green’s greatest hits in the original keys and arrangements, doing justice to this celebrated body of work.
