The Sound of Philadelphia
Join us on Saturday 19th October for an unforgettable night at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall, as Sir Lenny Henry presents ‘The Sound of Philadelphia’, a special concert celebrating 50 years of Philly soul music.
This one night only event marks the golden anniversary of the release of the seminal track TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), a song that defined an entire genre.
The evening will honor the legendary songwriting talents of Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, and Thom Bell, three pioneers of the Philadelphia International Records label, which revolutionized soul music with its rich blend of funk, lush string arrangements, and smooth melodies.
Philadelphia International Records, founded in 1971, is credited with shaping the Philly soul sound and laying the foundation for disco music in the 1970s.
A star-studded lineup of special guest singers, including Beverley Knight, Andrew Roachford, Omar Lye-Fook, Tony Momrelle, Ashton Jones, Derek Green, and Wayne Ellington—will take the stage, accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the musical direction of Chris Cameron.
Expect to hear classic hits such as Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, Love Train, Me and Mrs. Jones, and many more from the label’s legendary back catalogue.
Don’t miss this opportunity to relive the magic of Philly soul and celebrate its lasting legacy. Book your tickets now for an evening that promises to be a soulful journey through one of music’s most influential eras.
