Back in ‘91 DJ 279 launched Flava Of The Month, a monthly Hip Hop party @ The Borderline Club on Charing Cross Rd. The night proved to be a gathering place for a lot of UK Hip Hop heads, Fallacy, Blak Twang, Ty, Estelle, Skinnyman, MCD, Roots Manuva, David J, Jonzi D, Funky DL and many others would be found in the basement of this west end venue. Many artists did their first performances there, and the infamous open mic segment was harsh but REAL..... Emcees battled for their names, DJ's battled for money and bragging rights, whilst artist like Mad Skillz, Dead Prez, Big L, O.C, Ras Kass and Canibus did their 1st UK performances at Flava Of The Month. Add to that Stretch Armstrong, DJ Cash Money, Mr Cee, Tony Touch, Big Daddy Kane, Master Ace, Slaughterhouse, Method Man & Redman, Royce 5"9, Sean Price, Rza, AZ, Terminology, Bumpy Knuckles & DJ Premier are just a few names on a very illustrious list that Flava Of The Month has played host too.
