IWT Festival 'Trails of Hope and Terror'

Two teenage girls, Sandra and Josseline encounter the border (La Frontera), one by accident, and the other on purpose. But their journeys, along with the others we hear about in the film, began hundreds of years ago, as complicated political and economic strategies set up a vast system from which there is little hope of escape. Special attention is given to Manifest Destiny, the Mexican-American War, Gunboat Diplomacy, the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the creation of Banana Republics, the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the judicial procedure known as Operation Streamline, the border strategy known as Operation Gatekeeper, and the grassroots' resistant strategy employed by advocates for the undocumented known as the Sanctuary Movement.
