Ask any true Hip-Hop fan who their favourite DJ is and there is always one name top of that list, ‘The Magnificent’ Jazzy Jeff, so there was only one rational choice for us to headline our 300th event. Since launching in 2005 we’ve been described as “Iconic” (The Metro) and as “The kings of the capital’s Hip-Hop scene” (Time Out) and we’re sure this incredible event will solidify our reputation for throwing the best parties in UK.
Topping the bill we have the man widely regarded as the greatest DJ on the planet, Philadelphia’s finest, ‘The Magnificent’ DJ Jazzy Jeff. Having come to prominence in the 1980’s as the DJ and TV sidekick to Will Smith’s ‘Fresh Prince’, he’s continued to raise the bar for Hip-Hop both through his phenomenal DJ sets and production for the likes of De La Soul, The Roots, Slum Village and Eminem to name a few.
A Jazzy Jeff set is that rare balance of technical flair, ingenuity and straight party rocking which stands him apart from the crowd. Having started spinning at the tender age of 10 he now has a DMC Championship and several Grammy nominations to his name but his genuine love of music keeps his feet firmly on the ground.
Joining him in room 1 are The Doctor’ Orders residents Mr Thing, who continues his exclusive London club residency with us, & Spin Doctor the driving force behind The Doctor’s Orders for close to 9 years.
For a special treat we have something different in Room 2 as DJ Andy Smith and guests drop late 70’s disco & 80’s boogie evoking the spirit of legendary NYC clubs such as ‘Paradise Garage’ & ‘Studio 54’. Best known for releasing the first ever major label multi genre mix CD, ‘The Document’ (FFRR/London records) and for supplying samples and warming up for Bristol based band Portishead during the 90’s DJ Andy Smith has gone on to release many more DJ mix CD’s on various labels and holds down weekly DJ residencies in London as well as touring the globe in his own right.
He is joined by good friend Nick Halkes. From founding XL recordings and signing the Prodigy through to guest spots on both Mistajam and B-traits Radio One shows under his he has played a consistently dynamic role in the global evolution of dance music. Catching Nick at Reach up is a rare chance to hear him play the tunes that inspired him to make that journey. They are joined by Crissy Kybosh who is no stranger to rockin a party. DJing and Producing for the Hip Hop group ‘Twisted Link’ he has his roots in Hip Hop/Scratch DJing but as any good DJ, has wide tastes and a varied bag.
