Slum Village is ever evolving, with the addition of Young RJ Rice to the line-up, T3 and Young RJ remained focused and ready to go to the next level.
Formed in 1996 Slum Village released their first album Fantastic Volume 1, independently. The album was an instant underground classic. After the group's first national release, Fantastic, Volume 2 under their home label Barak Records, dubbed an immediate classic from fans and industry tastemakers. .
In 2001, J Dilla made the decision to pursue his solo career, but still hung around helpingYoung RJ with production,T3, Baatin, and Elzhi started work on their next album "Trinity" released on Barak/Capital Records. This album would feature their first commercial single "Tainted" which featured an unknown Dwele, also “Disco” the remix produced by Timberland.
In 2002, “Dirty District”, a compilation of songs by Detroit rappers largely produced byT3 and Young RJ, was released.
2004 album, “Detroit Deli” (A Taste of Detroit), included the hit single, "Selfish", produced by Kanye West and featuring John Legend.
2005, they released “Prequel to a Classic”, a mixtape and “Self-Titled” with production from Young RJ and Black Milk.
Tragedy struck in 2006 in the form of the loss of founding member J Dilla, to lupus
In 2009, T3, Baatin , , Illa J (of Yancey Boys fame and J Dilla's brother), started production on their next album, “Villa Manifesto, Produced by Young RJ”.
While touring in Canada that year tragedy struck for a second time, claiming the life of Baatin at home in Detroit, his death was felt deeply throughout the Detroit Hip Hop scene.
In 2010, the album "Villa Manifesto" was released under Ne'astra/Koch Records, by that time Elzhi had decided to move on and focus on pursuing his own solo career.
In 2012/13 Slum Village new mixtape "Dirty Slums Vol 1 & Vol. 2", presented by DJ Mick Boogie, featuring artists such as Rapper Big Pooh, De La Soul, Focus, Skyzoo, Phonte, and Phife,after 100,000+downloads.
In 2013/14 “B-Sides” and “Vintage, were released. (Ne’Astra Music)
In 2014 Evolution was release (Ne’Astra Music)
Bring them to 2015, Slum Village has found their niche, in giving that fiery flow that true hip-hop heads feel has been lost for a long time.
Never leaving their roots, Slum Village now gives their listeners the best of some of their unreleased material since Fantastic Vol. 1 & 2 with their single release "YES" produced by J Dilla, now brings you their album also titled "YES", produced by J Dilla and Young RJ, featuring performances by Bilal, Illa J, BJ The Chicago Kid, Phife Dawg, J Ivy, De La Soul, Black Milk, Frank Nitt, Kam Corvet, & Jon Conner
