An evening of Jamaican music celebration like no other as the UK innovator of dub, Dennis Bovell curates an all-star lineup to lovingly recreate the revolutionary sounds of King Tubby.
Having elevated the importance of the mixdown of a track, as a sound engineer King Tubby is widely credited as being the inventor of the remix, a now ubiquitous concept in electronic music. As a producer, his manipulation of the mixing deck led to the creation of ‘dub’ music; he played the deck like an instrument, bringing instruments and vocals in and out to change the style and tone of the music.
Dennis Bovell is an adventurous and innovative producer, musician, songwriter and engineer in his own right. Having moved from Barbados to London at the age of 12, his unique musical style incorporates a plethora of musical traditions and genres. His distinct musical personality makes him the perfect man to tackle Tubby’s extraordinary works, reimagining them by incorporating his own influences while still paying homage to a Jamaican musical hero.
