Yuri Da Cunha started his career at 21 years by winning a street contest in his home town of Sumbe, in Kwanza Sul. The individual style of music Yuri da Cunha is rooted in the rhythms of Angola, as Semba, Kazukuta and Kizomba including also rhythms and international instruments.
In 2011 and 2016 Yuri da Cunha represented Angola in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia Carnival. Alexandre Pires, one of the greatest legends of Brazil invited Yuri da Cunha to a tour of Europe.
The latest success of Yuri da Cunha was released in 2014. The song "Atchu choo cha", a song kuduro style with over 17 million views on YouTube, became the song of the year in South Africa and Angola. This single was the only one who put on the international map and there were people all over the world to talk about Yuri Da Cunha in Angola.
In June 2014 Yuri da Cunha became the first Angolan singer to win the Best African duet on the MTV awards with his single "ATchu Tchou tcha."
