The London Afrobeat Collective will be presenting their homage to one of the most influential figures in the history of funk: George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic Collective.
The term P-Funk refers to the repertoire associated with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic and his distinct style of funk music. The characteristic spacey synths and squelching baselines of Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins have ensured that the P-Funk has lived on in the lives and imaginations of music fans the world over. Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain and Parliament’s The Mothership Connection, two of the most famous P-Funk releases, are evidence of the wide range of music that P-Funk encompassed, the former a Jimi Hendrix-style rock album, and the latter a bona fide slice of funky goodness. P-Funk’s legacy has lived on, as the extensive sampling of P-Funk records in the hip-hop world attests.
Their work will be re-interpreted by the London Afrobeat Collective, the explosive live act making waves well beyond the capital with the unique energy they bring to their performances. The 2015 release of their album Food Chain propelled them onto the European scene, and, by coincidence or not, featured cover artwork from one Ben Hito, whose former credits include designs for George Clinton and Funkadelic.
