In 2016 & 2017, The Midnight Special performed 4 sold out Jazz Café shows celebrating the 50th anniversaries of both ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ and ‘The White Album’. At each of the performances, the band faithfully reproduced the albums, in full, note for note, accompanied by a full string section. The Midnight Special return to The Jazz Cafe for two more shows, this time performing The Beatles’ final masterpiece, ‘Abbey Road’. Once again, the band will be playing the album in full, 50 years to the day after the original release of the record 26th September 1969, with an extra show added on 23rd September due to high demand.
Once the album has been played in full, the band will return to the stage for a second set of Beatles greatest hits. The Beatles in 1969…After the somewhat difficult ‘Let It Be’ sessions with the band on the verge of breaking up, The Beatles returned to the familiarity of Abbey Road Studios to start work on a batch of carefully crafted recordings with ambitious musical arrangements. George Martin was invited back to produce the sessions on his own insistence that “We do this like we used to…” Considered by many as The Beatles masterwork. The stand out moments on side one of the vinyl ‘Something’ and ‘Here Comes The Sun’ were two of George Harrison’s finest songs ever cut to tape. With a feeling amongst the members that this would be their last album together, this is the sound of a whole band working flawlessly in the studio. Most notably in the 8 song medley that made up the second side of the vinyl, finishing with ‘The End’ and the fitting lyrics, “In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make…”
