FEATURES -
Amina Jama is a Somali-British writer. An alumna of Barbican Young Poets, member of Octavia Poetry Collective, co-host of one of the landmark poetry events in LDN - Boxedin: Spoken Word & Poetry Open Mic. She produced and curated a touring installation and exhibition from Aug-Dec 2019 entitled ‘Somalinimo’ which creates an intimate living room space and aims to explore the Somali experience in the diaspora. Her debut poetry pamphlet 'A Warning To The House That Holds Me' was published in 2019 by flipped eye publishing, edited by Jacob Sam-La Rose, and is frankly, astonishingly great.
Olivia Douglass
Olivia Douglass is a writer and artist from South East London. Her work aims to create an innovative terrain for writing and to re-mould the traditional and colonial images surrounding the Black Queer experience. She recently published her debut collection of poetry titled 'Slow Tongue', which is an examination of language and the relationship between Black women artists and is the Artistic Director of a new literary arts company, Slow Grounds. Previously she has worked with Albany Deptford, Talawa Friend, Boy Blue Ent, and the S+K Project.
OPEN MIC
Whether you’re a rapper, poet, musician, comedian, actor, storyteller, or vocal performer of any kind, you’re welcome to 3 minutes on the mic to do your thing.
We have 10 Open Mic tickets available in advance, so if you don't get a slot ahead of time, arrive before 7:00 to sign up on the door. (8 spots available OTD, plus reserves)
If you have a backing track/projections/any other technical requirements, please let us know before the event.
