For the first time ever, we invite one of the UK's most revered hip-hop acts to perform his landmark 2004 album in full backed by a live band of London's finest jazz musicians.
Council Estate of Mind documents in detail many of the hardships of living in early 21st century Britain but it is laden with humour, wit and groundbreaking social commentary.
The production is a standout feature, sampling heavily from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, the beats range from jumpy, ska-laden numbers ("Council Estate of Mind", "I'll be Surprised") to guitar-picked brooding pieces ("Day-To-Day Basis", "Little Man pt. 1 and 2") and, the two best songs on the album, featuring some very classy soul samples and some astounding lyrics, in the form of "Who, Me?" and "That's What I'm Gonna Do".
Jack Stephenson Oliver of Vels Trio leads a band made up of players from some of the most exciting breakout London jazz groups, who will arrange the original productions of this cult record.
Council Estate of Mind is one of the handful of UK hip-hop LPs that’s remained fondly in the consciousness of a wider audience. - The Face Magazine
