Revel in what the renowned American soul singer, Leroy Hutson has to offer at In the Round Festival.
Once labelled by Rolling Stone magazine as “the best-kept secret of Seventies soul”, Leroy Hutson quietly established a lasting legacy as one of the great soul men of his day.
Regarded as not only a great tenor singer, but also a fine songwriter, keyboardist and arranger, Hutson also co-wrote the major hit The Ghetto with Donna Hathaway, which quickly became one of the most influential songs of the 70s.
Hutson’s fame elevated further after he replaced Curtis Mayfield in the legendary Impressions group, which eventually allowed him to release his own solo debut album. Love Oh Love was the first of eight albums over a ten year span and began a string of quality hits such as All Because of You and Feel the Spirit.
Boasting unique harmonies and a well-deserved R&B following, this master craftsman will take us on a musical journey to the sweet spot between the soul, the funk and the jazz. Come along for the ride…
Leroy Hutson will be supported by former Resident Artist Teshay Makeda, an award-winning songstress who fuses Reggae, Soul and RnB to create her own dynamic genre dubbed ’Roots Soul’. Having featured on BBC1 Extra and Capital Xtra, Teshay’s songwriting is a vibrant and contemporary take on expressing spirituality through song.
