Description

Come ready to dance as Afropop superstar Yemi Alade and queen of gqom Moonchild Sanelly bring their hits to Meltdown festival.

As well as ‘Johnny’ – which has over 150 million views on YouTube – Nigerian singer/songwriter, actress and all-round entertainer Yemi Alade is known for tracks including ‘Shekere’, ‘Africa’, ‘Oh My Gosh’, ‘Ferrari’, ‘Na Gode, ‘Bum Bum’ and ‘Don’t Jealous Me’, a track from Beyoncé’s compilation album The Lion King: The Gift.

She’s a two-time BET Awards nominee for Best International Act Africa, a two-time nominee for the MOBO Awards Best International Act, and a back to back winner of the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Female.

In September of 2020, Yemi Alade became a United Nations Development Programme Goodwill Ambassador, adding to her long list of responsibilities, which includes her own charity, the Helen and James PathWay Foundation.

Moonchild Sanelly is a South African rapper-singer applying her sex-positive lyrics to two of the most hyped genres of recent years: gqom and amapiano.

As with Alade, she featured on Beyonce’s soundtrack album, and Moonchild has also worked with Gorillaz and Ghetts (on ‘Mozambique’). She’s an artist on the up, and an extremely welcome addition to our Meltdown line-up.
